MAY MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH WRAP-UP

WHAT A MONTH IT’S BEEN!

As May Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end, we encourage you to keep youth mental health at the forefront all year round. While we appreciate the month to highlight the need for mental health awareness, we know that the need for awareness and advocacy is daily.

Our 2024 Youth Advisory Board members at their end of the year celebration.

Thank you to CAPSLO, Pismo Beach Veterinary Clinic and Sesloc Federal Credit Union. Their sponsorship of our youth program allowed us to present 3 participating seniors with college scholarships!

  • Tristan Bird $500 - attending USC in the fall.

  • Isabel Rodriguez $500 - attending UCSB in the fall.

  • Janeen Simon $500 - attending UCSC in the fall.

WHAT’S NEW WITH CCAMH?

In the past 6 months, our Mental Health Resources for Youth and Families Treatment Centers added an additional 555 hours of treatment.

San Luis Obispo Treatment Center: Our DOORS ARE OPEN! We are thrilled with our new space and with the expansion, we have immediate availability for appointments. Thank you to all our volunteers who helped us get our new space ready. Ryan Olsen with Olsen Remodel and Construction, Freedom Plumbing, PROCARE Janitorial Supply, Inc., Handy-Man Thom Perlmutter, SLO Marble, Modelhom furnishings, and Michelle Pelech Interiors.

Soquel Treatment Center: We opened our doors in March. Come by or schedule an appointment.

Both Treatment Centers have immediate availability for appointments for ages 26 and under. We are taking new patients. For more information and to schedule an appointment, please call: (805) 996-0535.

Thank you for our volunteers in SLO County and Santa Cruz County. None of what we do would be possible without many hands helping us at every step of the way.

Parent Drop-In Sessions

Get your questions answered at a Parent Drop-In on the last Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM. Parents can log in for FREE and ask any mental health questions to a professional. The sessions are on Zoom and attendees can remain anonymous if desired.

Word is getting out and the sessions have been well-attended. Thank you to MUST! Charities for supporting this program and our families.

Diane Schiesl joined us as a volunteer this past November to lead fundraising and events.

Diane sprang into action immediately after becoming aware of our new organization and her contribution has been significant.

We are incredibly lucky to have Diane on our team. She truly is a shining light that inspires all around her. Driven by her own experience with mental health, Diane is deeply inspired to improve the mental health resources for youth in our community.

Diane has been hard at work getting the SLO Treatment Center up and running, organizing community efforts, and planning events.

Thank you, Diane! We are so grateful you are a part of our team.

Awards Received to Help Us Help Our Community

CCAMH received an award of $9,500 from the City of Arroyo Grande as part of its Community Service Grant Program. This award will go directly to building more access to mental health care and programming to support local youth.

The Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health also received a $100,000 award from Morgan Stanley for Innovation in Addressing Children’s Mental Health

CCAMH was one of five organizations nationwide selected to receive the Morgan Stanley Alliance for Children’s Mental Health Innovation Award.

CCAMH was recognized for its commitment to expanding services for first-generation American teens and families. With this award, CCAMH will increase current services to include a First-Gen Teen Center that will empower first-generation American teen advisors to engage in peer mentoring and train new therapists to provide culturally informed treatment and family support.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

HOST A SMALL GATHERING

It Takes a Village and We Appreciate Ours!

We’d like to extend a big “THANK YOU” to the families who have hosted small gatherings at their homes. These are critical to CCAMH as we work to get the word out about what we do and how we can help those who need us.

  • Lisa and Ken Sperow

  • Diane Schiesl

  • Megan Kostelnik

If you’d like to host a small gathering, please contact diane@ccamh.org

HOST AN EVENT

Thank you to Timbre Winery for hosting an event for us on May 25th at their tasting room - this was the 3rd time they have hosted and donated a portion of their sales to CCAMH. Timbre Winery has been an early and on-going supporter of CCAMH and we cannot thank them enough for their support.

If you have a location, business, or connection, please contact diane@ccamh.org for details.

ADVOCATE

Spread the word! Help us reach our community through your connections. The more you share about CCAMH, our mission, and our services, the more we can help our youth. It just takes simple conversations!

DONATE

We continue to be blown away by the generosity of our community! Your donations go directly to create opportunities for access to more care for local youth and their families.
