Dr. Kathleen McMahon

Associate Social Worker

Dr. Kathleen McMahon is an associate social worker, training under the supervision of Dr. Ramona Friedman (ASW #124049). She holds an Educational Doctorate from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master’s in clinical social work from Boston College.

Kathleen joined CCAMH after a 30-year career working in educational organizations. She has extensive experience supporting youth and adolescents, assisting them in overcoming developmental and mental health hurdles. Over the years she led case management and behavioral intervention teams, created and oversaw prevention programs focused on youth mental health, and utilized evidence based public health models to inform school wide educational outreach programs. She has over two decades experience working as a student advocate at the college level and loves connecting with young adults who are finding their way in the world.

Kathleen is an empathic, heartfelt counselor who is passionate about helping young people create meaning and positive change in their lives. Her gifts include having a curious, compassionate mindset, and the ability to help individuals delve more deeply to create profound and meaningful change. She incorporates mindfulness practices to uncover limiting habits and beliefs to support transformational change.

She received her EdD in Education Leadership from UCLA’s Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, holds a master’s degree in clinical social work from Boston College, and majored in philosophy from the University of New Hampshire. She received her coaching certification from the Fielding Graduate University in Evidence Based Coaching and is certified through the International Coaching Federation with her Associate Coaching Certification. 

Kathleen and her family moved to the Central Coast in 2016 and is grateful to live in such a beautiful place that allows her to hike, run, and play outdoors regularly. She also enjoys being around horses and spending time with her family on their tiny farm that has dogs, cats, chickens and goats.
